FAQ — GeoManager

1. What is GeoManager?

GeoManager is an iOS app designed for frequent travelers, digital nomads, expatriates, and cross-border professionals. It automatically tracks which country you are in each day, helps you monitor residency-related thresholds (such as 183-day rules or Schengen 90/180), and keeps insurance, documents, trips, and deadlines organized in one place.

2. How does the automatic location tracking work?

GeoManager uses your device's background location services to record your position periodically throughout the day. At the end of each day, it determines the dominant country where you spent most of your time and logs it on the calendar. You can also manually correct the country or city for any day if the automatic detection was inaccurate.

3. Does the app track my exact GPS position or store my coordinates?

The app determines which country and city you are in. It does not continuously record or share your precise GPS coordinates with third parties. Location data stays on your device (and in your iCloud backup if you use one). See our Privacy Policy for full details.

4. Can I use GeoManager without enabling location tracking?

Yes. You can disable background location and enter your daily country manually via the calendar. However, automatic tracking is the core feature and provides the most complete and effortless record.

5. Is GeoManager a tax advisor or legal advisor?

No. GeoManager is an informational tool only. It displays day counts, threshold indicators, and residency-related signals based on rules you configure, but it does not constitute tax, legal, or immigration advice. Always consult a qualified professional for decisions about tax residency, visa compliance, or legal obligations. The app includes an in-app disclaimer to this effect.

6. How accurate are the fiscal residency and Schengen calculations?

The calculations are based on the day-level data recorded in your calendar. They apply general rules (such as 183 days in a calendar year, or 90 days within a rolling 180-day Schengen window) and are only as accurate as the underlying data. They are meant as awareness tools, not as certified legal computations. Edge cases — such as partial days, transit, or country-specific exceptions — may not be captured.

7. Does GeoManager cover all countries' tax residency rules?

No. Tax residency rules vary enormously across jurisdictions and change over time. GeoManager provides configurable day-count thresholds and general indicators, but it does not embed the specific tax code of every country. You should verify the rules that apply to your situation with a tax professional.

8. What is the Schengen simulator?

The Schengen simulator lets you plan future trips by adding segments (country + date range) and instantly see the estimated impact on your 90/180-day Schengen allowance. It shows the projected total, net change, and whether you would exceed the limit — before you book anything.

9. What is the trip planner and what can I do with it?

Each trip has its own hub with tabs for overview, budget, itinerary, jet lag planner, checklist, and notes. In the budget section you can log expenses by category, attach receipt photos (from your library or by taking a photo), add trip participants, and split costs with suggested settlements.

10. Can I share trip expenses with other people?

Yes. You can add participants to a trip, assign who paid for each expense, and exclude individuals from specific costs. GeoManager calculates net balances and suggests settlements so everyone knows who owes whom. The data stays on your device; there is no shared account or cloud sync between users.

11. What does the travel map show?

The travel map is an interactive world map displaying the countries you have visited. You can filter by date range, see departure and destination routes, and view summary stats (countries, continents, total days). You can save a preferred date range as your default.

12. What are the statistics and analytics features?

GeoManager provides lifetime stats (total countries, continents, longest trip, streaks) and yearly stats by country. A year-over-year comparison mode lets you see how your travel patterns change. The trip timeline groups your history by country and year, and is searchable by country or city.

13. How does the expiry calendar work?

The expiry calendar consolidates the end dates of your travel documents (passports, visas, residence cards, driving licences) and insurance policies into one view, grouped by urgency. You receive alerts before deadlines so renewals do not catch you off guard.

14. What insurance features are included?

You can add and manage travel insurance policies with coverage details, add-ons, policy numbers, remaining days until expiry, and renewal tracking. Insurance data also feeds into home-screen widgets and the expiry calendar.

15. Does GeoManager sell insurance or act as an insurance broker?

No. GeoManager is a record-keeping and awareness tool. It lets you store and monitor your own policy details, but it does not sell, broker, or underwrite any insurance product. Any coverage descriptions shown are based on data you enter; verify terms directly with your insurer.

16. What tools are available under the "More" section?

Nomad tax notes (a dedicated space for tax reminders by country), timezone meeting helper (find overlapping work hours across countries), offline phrasebook (essential phrases without internet), pre-departure checklist, flag quiz and practice mode, and shortcuts to insurance, trip planner, and visa countdown.

17. What is the timezone meeting helper?

You select several countries or time zones and the app shows when working hours overlap, with a suggested meeting window in UTC and in each participant's local time. Useful for remote teams spread across the world.

18. Does the offline phrasebook work without internet?

Yes. The phrasebook is stored locally on your device and works fully offline — ideal for border crossings, taxis, or areas with poor connectivity.

19. How do I import my past travel history?

GeoManager supports importing from Google Maps Timeline (Takeout JSON) and GPX files. A step-by-step import wizard guides you through the process. You can preview the data before applying it and choose to merge with existing records or overwrite affected days. A direct link to Google Takeout is provided in the app.

20. Can I export my data?

Yes. You can export a full JSON backup (for restore), a CSV file, or a PDF travel diary. CSV and PDF exports support custom date ranges with quick presets. All exports use the system share sheet, so you can send them to any app or service.

21. What happens if I delete data by mistake?

Deletion actions show a confirmation with the count of days and events that will be removed. However, once confirmed, deletion is permanent unless you have a backup. We recommend exporting a JSON backup periodically.

22. What is the demo simulation data?

On first launch (or from Settings), you can generate a multi-year sample dataset that populates the calendar, trips, insurance, and documents with realistic but fictitious data. This lets you explore every feature before committing your own records. You can delete the demo data at any time.

23. Which languages does GeoManager support?

English, Italian, French, German, and Spanish. You can change the language at any time from Settings without restarting the app.

24. Does GeoManager have widgets?

Yes. Home-screen widgets show configurable content such as Schengen status, insurance summary, top country, and more. Widget preferences are managed in Settings, and data refreshes automatically when the app updates.

25. What themes and visual options are available?

You can choose Auto, Light, or Dark theme. Two visual styles are available — Simple and Widget — with adjustable card transparency (levels 0–5). An immersive background mode adapts to the time of day.

26. Does GeoManager sync across devices?

GeoManager stores data locally on your device. If you use iCloud backup, your device backup will include app data. There is currently no dedicated cloud sync or multi-device real-time sync feature. You can transfer data between devices using the JSON backup and restore function.

27. Is my data shared with third parties?

No. Your location data, travel records, insurance details, and documents remain on your device. GeoManager does not transmit personal data to external servers or third-party analytics services. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

28. Does GeoManager work on iPad?

GeoManager is designed for iPhone. It may run on iPad via compatibility mode, but the interface is optimized for iPhone screen sizes.
